Assess and analyze student admissions profile and recommend colleges that match student requirements and needs while reducing student and family stress. Provide computerized platform to manage application requirements and deadlines. Familiarity with local schools provides comprehensive recommendations for high school class selection. Provide creative and innovative solutions for successful educational transitions.


San Jose Unified School District and Silicon Valley Career Technical Education - San Jose, CA 

EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT – COUNSELING, MARKETING, COMMUNICATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY SPECIALIST   2005-2016


SVCTE Special Projects 2014-2016 Created and implemented marketing and recruitment plans.  Data research, analysis and reporting for SVCTE Principal focusing on outreach and increasing communication with partner districts.  Trained outreach personnel.  Administrative and Counselor substitute.  Event planning, including SJUSD Leadership Conference.


SJUSD Learning Options 2005-2016   Collaborate with SJUSD and CTE teachers, counselors, administrators to facilitate student success in academic and CTE programs. Provide post-secondary education and career advisement to diverse student populations, including students with IEP’s and 504 Plans, English Language Learners and at-risk youth.  Assist in problem solving and conflict mediation involving student attendance, behavior, disadvantaged education and/or home environment, and medical diagnoses. Generate and implement individualized post-secondary plans for seniors. Create and deliver marketing presentations for new and current CTE programs to students, parents, and staff.    Document, assess, analyze and communicate student achievement and intervention needs.  Counsel students in individual, small and large group situations.  Distribute recruitment and retention materials, calendars, course outlines, grades, credits and attendance and behavior reports.  Create and provide accountability data as requested.


SJUSD Gunderson High School 2007-08   Responsible for surveying all ROP/C students regarding career goals and needed educational support, then provided assistance in achieving college and career goals. 


CCOC Middle School Career Camp and Substitute Counselor 2006-07   Designed and delivered marketing presentations to at-risk middle school students.  Assisted in curriculum design.  Supported students and staff in career camp implementation.  Scheduled scholarship interviews, college placement and testing, and financial aid seminars for CTE students.  Provided financial aid information to disadvantaged youth and AB540 students. 

 

San Jose Unified School District

CTE LIASON/COUNSELOR ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT  8/99-6/04   Recruited, scheduled and monitored students attending CTE Regional Occupational Center Programs. Evaluated new student program placement, then enrolled/transferred/dropped students after individual counseling.  Communicated with and between CTE instructors, SJUSD case managers and high school administrators, students, and parents.  Arranged presentations and tours for 200-300 students.


Central County Occupational Center – San Jose, CA 8/93-6/00

SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR   1/99-6/00    Planned and coordinated Career Fair, Open House and Student Awards Ceremony.  Guests included local political and business dignitaries.


CAREER CONNECTIONS DEVELOPER/INSTRUCTOR 7/97-1/99   Created a two-class multilevel certificate program conceived to facilitate student employment and achievement of SCANS skills.  Integrated multimedia, hands-on, and computerized activities into individualized math, English and computer literacy programs.  Assessed and appropriately placed diverse cultural, linguistic and socioeconomic students based on learning styles and needs.  Community liaison.  Presenter at local/state educational conferences.


LEARNING LAB COORDINATOR/EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS INSTRUCTOR  9/93-6/97   Taught students basic-advanced workplace skills.  Developed year-long Applied Academics class including curriculum and classroom design using networked computer software.  Originated referral process and accountability systems for schoolwide program support and basic skills remediation.  Analyzed student needs and progress while consulting with school staff to ensure student success with individualized programs.  Recruited, scheduled and managed over 150 students weekly.  Inserviced Metro Ed staff and provided model lessons in Work Skills curriculum.

MASTER TEACHER   7/88-6/93   Taught diverse students in Chapter 1 year-round situation.  Created and implemented integrated units in all subject areas focusing on active participation, critical thinking, and cooperative learning to foster success and self-esteem in all students.  Created upper-grade level positive academic and behavior reinforcement program.  Coordinated Family Reading and TEAM tutorial programs.
