Joe Bernard, counsels students independently in Portland, Oregon since 1997 and works for Valley Catholic School in Beaverton Oregon as College Counselor. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon and a Master’s in Student Personnel Counseling from the University of Portland, where he worked in admissions. With more than 35 years of college counseling experience, he is Oregon’s first Certified Educational Planner, the highest professional credential possible for College Counselors. Joe taught a graduate-level course on college counseling at Lewis and Clark, chairs the Portland National College fair, and holds a charter membership in the Higher Educational Consultants Association, for which he served as Vice President for six years, and recently concluded service in the Presidential cycle. He also serves on the executive committee of the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling. He is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and established the Northwest Spring College Fairs in Portland and Seattle. He enjoys his family and spending time outdoors, camping, biking, water skiing, scuba diving, gardening, and marveling at creation.
