Description of Services : Lisa Harrison, M.A., holds a graduate degree in communications, worked in public relations and marketing research/strategy, and completed an Independent Educational Consultant (IEC) certificate through UC Irvine (2021). She found herself offering essay help to seniors and after completing the IEC certificate through UCI, Lisa launched Empower College Consulting, a full-service college advising service. Description of Experience : For the past five years, I helped edit college essays for my own children and their friends as well as other students needing help (not for pay). I enjoyed the process and found meaning in helping students, so I enrolled in the UC Irvine IEC program three years ago and will complete my last course, an LD elective, in August. I completed the Practicum this spring, 2021 and started work with my first comprehensive student, a rising senior. I now have another rising senior and a potential third. My goal is to keep my practice relatively small and personal for the next few years as I continue to evolve my processes, gain experience and get involved with HECA. I'm committed to continuing tours and professional educational growth. In addition, I have considerable public speaking experience and plan to incorporate community education and pro bono seminars into my practice. Prior to having four children, I earned a Master of Arts degree in communications, worked in public relations and later in marketing research (supervising both quantitative/surveys and qualitative/focus group research). My strengths include research, advising, writing guidance and keeping a sense of humor. I appreciate how the IEC profession allows me to utilize a wide range of skills to positively impact college-bound students.
