Dr. Jennifer Stephan

About

For more than three decades, Dr. Jennifer Stephan has helped students navigate pivotal educational transitions—from applying to and choosing a college to thriving in college and, when necessary, recovering from unexpected academic challenges. Her work is grounded in a simple belief: students are most successful when they find educational environments that align with who they are, how they learn, and their goals.

Jennifer recently completed ten years as Dean of Academic Advising and Undergraduate Studies for the School of Engineering at Tufts University and continues to serve as an affiliated faculty member, teaching the Foundations for Engineering Success course she designed. Before joining Tufts, she spent more than two decades as a professor of computer science and academic dean at Wellesley College. She also served on Wellesley’s Board of Admissions and has worked as an alumni interviewer for Johns Hopkins University.

She holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Jennifer is nationally recognized for her leadership in higher education, advising, and student success. She has spoken at *The Chronicle of Higher Education*’s Virtual Forum on college advising, contributed to *U.S. News & World Report*, and is a frequent speaker on college admissions, engineering education, student success, and higher education.

Drawing on her experience as a professor, dean, admissions committee member, academic advisor, and private college counselor, Jennifer developed the Deep-Fit™ Framework, an approach to college search and admissions that emphasizes student thriving as the foundation for long-term success.

Today, through Lantern College Counseling, Jennifer works with students and families worldwide on college admissions, college success, and academic recovery, drawing on more than thirty years of experience in higher education. She specializes in engineering, computer science, STEM, and undecided students, helping students find educational environments where they can truly thrive.
