HECA Webinar: Post Graduate Programs - A New Way of Finding College Success

June 5, 2024 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (EDT)

Description

College readiness has been a moving target since COVID-19, with many higher education institutions reporting concerns about academic, social, and emotional skill abilities. Yet while colleges and universities are responding with more programs and hiring additional support, and high schools are increasing efforts to teach transitional skills, research shows that many students still need more time to prepare for college independence. This is especially true for more at-risk students, including those with learning and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Many secondary schools have responded to research by establishing post-graduate programs – a thirteenth year of high school to intentionally build the necessary skills to find post-secondary success. This session will focus on the importance of post-graduate programs, what ideally should be part of these transitional years, and how students can capitalize on this experience as a step forward and not see it as a step back. Participants will also have time to provide insight into topics and skills that consultants feel are essential to develop before full-time matriculation.
